My Journey as a Hairstylist in the UK – A Story of Hope, Hard Work, and Never Giving Up
When I moved to the UK and settled in Boston, Lincolnshire, I knew I was starting a completely new chapter in my life. I left behind not only my home but also my clients, my comfort zone, and the career I had worked so hard to build. I had one dream—to continue doing what I love most: making people feel beautiful and confident through hairdressing.
Like many people who move to a new country, I had to start from zero.
Nobody knew who I was. I didn't have regular clients or a salon waiting for me. All I had was my experience, my passion, and the determination to make my dream come true.
The first two years were some of the hardest years of my career.
I searched for clients wherever I could. I offered my services to neighbours and friends, and I advertised in local Facebook groups. I worked from home, hoping that someone would trust me enough to book an appointment. Every message I received made me excited, and every new client gave me hope that I was moving one step closer to building my business.
But the truth is, it wasn't easy.
There were many days when my appointment book was almost empty. I wondered if people would ever discover my work. Starting again in a new country is difficult, especially when your career depends on people knowing and trusting you.
There were moments when I felt discouraged, but I never wanted to give up.
I reminded myself why I became a hairstylist in the first place. Hairdressing isn't just about cutting or colouring hair. It's about helping someone look in the mirror and smile. It's about giving people confidence, making them feel special, and sometimes simply listening while they sit in your chair.
That is what I love most about my job.
After two years of working hard to build my client base, I was given an opportunity to work at Top Art Salon. It felt like all my effort had finally started to pay off.
Working in the salon helped me grow professionally and personally. I met wonderful clients, worked alongside talented people, and learned something new every day. Those two years gave me more confidence and showed me that I was capable of achieving my goals.
But deep inside, I still had another dream.
I wanted to create a place that truly reflected me—a warm, welcoming space where every client could feel relaxed and receive personal attention.
That dream became reality when I opened my own home hair studio, Hair By Liene.
Opening my own business was one of the proudest moments of my life.
Of course, owning a business isn't always easy. Behind every haircut and every colour appointment are hours of work that people don't always see. There is advertising, replying to messages, buying products, learning new techniques, cleaning, organising appointments, and constantly trying to reach new clients.
Even now, after almost three years of running my home studio, I am still working hard to grow my business.
Living in Boston, Lincolnshire, finding new clients can still be challenging. Sometimes people think that after several years, a business automatically becomes busy. The reality is that every small business owner continues to work hard every single day.
Every recommendation means everything.
Every review makes me smile.
Every returning client reminds me why I never gave up.
I feel incredibly grateful to everyone who has trusted me with their hair over the years. Some of my clients have become much more than clients—they have become wonderful people I look forward to seeing, chatting with, and helping feel their best.
Looking back, I realise how much this journey has taught me.
It has taught me patience when things were slow.
It has taught me confidence when I doubted myself.
Most importantly, it has taught me that dreams really can come true if you keep believing in yourself and never stop working towards them.
I know my journey is far from over.
I still dream of growing Hair By Liene, welcoming more wonderful clients, and continuing to improve my skills. Hair trends change, techniques evolve, and I love learning so I can always offer the best service possible.
Every person who sits in my chair is important to me. Whether you are visiting for a simple trim, a complete transformation, or just a little self-care, I want you to leave feeling happier, more confident, and proud of your hair.
If you have been following my journey, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Your support, your recommendations, your kind words, and every appointment have helped me continue doing what I truly love.
And if you've never visited me before, maybe this is the perfect time.
